The best family walks North West - The Ladybirds' Adventures Bramfield Woods is located between the villages of Datchworth, Bramfield and Watton at Stone, each of which has an decent pub. The rest of the walk is mainly made up of sweeping undulating open countryside, so it's really a walk for those of you that really want to stretch your legs. There is no dedicated car park at Pegsdon Hills but if you take the Apsley End Road off the B655, there is a left turn after about 50 metres into a dead end road. This is a lovely walk exploring Sherrardspark Wood, a 75-hectares site of ancient woodland within walking distance of Welwyn Garden Station. Ideal for family cycling. You can park on one of the streets around Knutsford and enjoy a good buggy . You can walk along stretches of it. It's similar in distance, but this option spends more time in the countryside and less time in the town of Buntingford itself than the third route. However, this route also offers a slightly longer venture out into the arable farmland and countryside to the east of Buntingford. This option is for those of you who want to enjoy a walk that visits the Henry Moore Foundation in Perry Green (a fee applies if you want to get into the gardens) but also want to stretch your legs a bit more on the walk. Refreshments: The Hollybush, Redbourn The Cricketers, Redbourn, Redbourn5 milesThis second route is basically a long extension of the first walk for those of you that really want to stretch your legs. Llys-y-Frn is a 350-acre country park set in the heart of the Pembrokeshire countryside. Pinterest. The area is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Local Nature Reserve. Accessible Walks. After that, you'll then descend back down to the village for your reward at the wonderful country pub in the village. You'll then loop around and head back to the start of the walk along the Chain Walk. There are facilities at Ashridge Estate including a caf and toilets. Our children love playing next to the River Mimram a chalk stream which runs through the park. Some half a million trees have been planted on what was formerly arable land. Its a popular place to walk where you can enjoy woodland paths, play areas and a relaxing stroll along the canal. You can park on the side of the road here or try the Hexton Road car park (SG5 3BP) which has space for about 4 cars. Expect lovely views, peace & fresh air, lots of horses roaming around and a little detour to a truly wonderful country pub towards the start of the route. Theres also a decent cafe, Crumbs, and a second pub, the George and Dragon, further up the High Street. There are also walking loops off the Nickey Line that take you to Rothampsted Park and Rothampsted Estate if you prefer more of a circular walk. It's not that strenuous a hill to tackle, but it will work up more of an appetite for when you return to the lovely pub in the village with it's large beer garden and play area for the kids. We havent been after dark but apparently you can see the eerie glow of glow worms which must be quite a sight! However, this option extends that route and also heads further to the north to follow the footpath through the gorgeous Woodhall Park where the Heath Mount School is located, and then heads back to join the second route along a quiet country lane. Ashridge Estate is a beautiful estate run by the National Trust in an area of outstanding natural beauty. Its also perfect for cycling as the pathways are fairly flat. Mardley Heath is great fun for cyclists little kids will enjoy exploring the many paths while big kids will LOVE the open sandy space where some industrious souls have created some bike jumps my children love racing over these. The walk climbs up a mild hill to the north of the village, takes you through the woodland of Park Wood, and then loops back round to descend back down into the village. The extension doesn't add a huge amount of variety to the first walk, as the extra distance is mainly through more peaceful open countryside, but it does add some extra walking and this will work up a bigger appetite for your return to the pub after your walk.
